Architecture Harmonization

Executive Summary
Architecture Harmonization work is focused on the unification of interface and information models comprising the TM Forum’s Transformation Framework initiatives (NGOSS). The key principles that drive Architecture Harmonization are service-oriented architecture (SOA) and the creation of technology-neutral platforms that encourage flexibility and agility in the enterprise.

Architecture Harmonization will identify and harmonize the interdependencies existing among critical NGOSS artifacts:

NGOSS Contracts - Concepts and Principles
Guiding Architecture Harmonization work will be the newly created GB942, a document (currently out for review) that demonstrates how “Contracts” provide the necessary linkages among the Information Framework, Business Process Framework and Applications Framework. In addition to the key frameworks, the document also provides direction for "implementation" (via the TM Forum Interface Program) and for "tooling" (via a Tooling Taskforce).

In GB942, the Contracts are described from both business- and systems-oriented points of view. These Contracts serve to extend SOA, as the Architecture Harmonization respects the long-lived relationships that exist between specific client and server systems that remain in the OSS/BSS environment. To help in that purpose, GB942 provides "granularity guidelines" that derive from the Business Process Framework and an information model—compliant with the Information Framework (SID). There also exist definitions of these systems in the Application Framework's GB929 (Application Map).

Technical Overview
The Architecture Harmonization team vision:
  • Develop an adaptable, standardized solution environment that supports the service operations necessary across the entire range of properties for a converged network-, operations- and business continuum
  • Create a solutions environment that continuously supports the OSS/BSS needs through growth and change in network and service capabilities, and through the evolution of implementation technologies.
The Architecture Harmonization team targets:
  • A single architecture covering all aspects of NGOSS;
  • Continuous seamless evolution as the solution grows;
  • Clarity of its intersection with other standards initiatives;
  • Creation of a single inclusive information model;
  • Creation of a single inclusive interaction model among applications;

As the TM Forum Collaboration Program strives to generate NGOSS solutions that possess coherent structure relevant today and into the future, there is a need for holistic treatment of architecture and methodology across the entire organization. The “Architecture Harmonization” is a reflection of that need and works to create a cohesive strategy for all key TM Forum collaborative work. The architecture specifications are developed by the Architecture Harmonisation Team. Read More
