Information Framework (SID)

Simplifying Integration, Speeding Time to Market

Overview
TM Forum recognizes that service-oriented architecture (SOA) development and related initiatives for interoperability among support systems rely heavily on a common information model and a common language for all systems touched by integration efforts.

The foundation of a "common language" allows common representation, as well as a standardized meaning for the relationships that exist among logical entities. For example, a common definition of what is "customer" and how It relates to other elements, such as mailing address, purchase order, billing records, trouble tickets, and so on.

TM Forum's Information Framework (SID) not only succeeds in building a common language, but also in aligning data with pertinent business processes. To that end, TM Forum principals have mapped the Information Framework's information directly to the widely deployed Business Process Framework (eTOM) process definitions. The two go hand-in-hand so that data in support systems truly reflect the business requirements of the Service Provider. This harmony between information and business process has become the cornerstone to TM Forum's Solution Frameworks.

Note: The Information Framework and its synergy with the Business Process Framework (eTOM) has received further validation through the  ITU-T Recommendation M.3190 , led by Dave Sidor of Nortel and Knut Johannessen of Telenor. The Recommendation encompasses the “Product” and “Service” domains of The TM Forum Information Framework v 7.5.

Using the NGOSS framework to reduce the Concept-to-Market time for new products and services
Rollout of new product variants is still a time intensive task at most of the Communications Service Providers taking anywhere between 4-6 months. A major portion of this time is spent in identifying the changes required on the IT platforms to support the variance in Fulfillment vertical and primarily in product management, customer management and service management domains.
