This document outlines how Internet service providers (ISPs) can generate additional revenue and attract new customers using a new concept for web-based self-services that resolves the bandwidth on demand problem.
Over the past few years, increased demands from customers for more Internet services have led Internet service providers to enlarge their networks. However, this is now no longer a question of simply expanding infrastructure and increasing the number of regional points of presence (POPs). It is now much more important for providers to offer service level agreements (SLAs) that guarantee their customers excellent quality of service and adequate bandwidth. In the current competitive climate, the only way to keep existing customers and gain new ones is to combine high quality with fast response times and to give users a high level of flexibility in modifying services. Bandwidth on demand is an instrument to achieve this goal.
